Life
basically consists of what you say yes to and what you say no to. Its that
simple.
Ive been
doing personal development work on myself for over 15 years and the more I do,
the more I realise that all the complex techniques I've learned actually come
down to enabling me to realise I can congruently and definitely say yes - I want that or no I dont. And mean it.
God gives
us a set of personal powers (capabilities we can use) and these are inherent.
We have the power to think, the power to emote (feel), the power to act, and
the power to speak.
These are
inherently ours. Our flesh produces them. They come from within, we are at root
cause in terms of who is responsible for using them. We are the source of the
USE of those ideas (to a great degree.)
Now I do
believe that in his heart a man plans his course but the LORD determines his
steps. I personally have experienced having the LORD direct my steps in a way
that changed my life powerfully for the better.
But I think
that a great deal of the time we talk ourselves out of using our own powers
because:
. We have
convinced ourselves or let ourselves be convinced by others that we are not
powerful.
. We
believe there is something wrong or deficient with us i.e. we are broken in
some way.
. We dont
know how to use them in a way that most benefits us and the people around us.
. We are
afraid of our own thoughts and emotions.
Please let
me tell you a few things that have really helped me.
First, I
know that I am not my thoughts and feelings. If you want to be your thoughts
and feelings, then fine. That mechanical view of the world is acceptable for
some people. You know, I think, therefore I am.
For me, I
am a creation of the Living God, I am his adopted son, and my life was given to
me by Him. My life was created out of His life. There is something of Him in me
that is divine and beyond any judgement a man could pass on me. Arrogant? No.
Realistic and freeing. Yes.
I am not my
thoughts and feelings. Therefore, as they are not my SELF, I can command them
to stop or start as I think fit.
Which
brings me back to the yes and no.
I have
realised that my thinking patterns, styles and beliefs operate as processes which
I have command over.
So I asked
myself: with this particular habit why don't I just stop?
And I
realised that I could. I can start an stop a machine, I can start and stop a
thinking process because it is not me. It is something I DO, not something I
am. Therefore, I can operate it.
This is
both liberating and upsetting. Upsetting because I wish Id known this years
ago, liberating because now I do and I want to share it with you.
Sometimes
personal development is not that complicated. It doesn't need a swish pattern,
a neurosemantic intervention, EFT, TFT etc.
Sometimes
you just need to say and mean NO or YES.
These are
your birthrights.
Use them.
God bless
